Vladimir Guerrero extended his hitting streak to eight games with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, lifting Baltimore to a 2-1 win over Washington Sunday at Camden Yards.

Guerrero, who had his streak of multi-hit games end at seven, connected for his fifth homer off Jordan Zimmermann, who hung a breaking ball on an 0-2 count. The home run was the first for Guerrero since April 28, a span of 82 at-bats, and No. 441 for his career.

Guerrero’s blast made a winner of Jim Johnson (3-1), the second of four Baltimore relievers, who each pitched one scoreless inning. Kevin Gregg pitched the ninth and earned his eighth save.

Zimmermann (2-5) pitched well for 6 1/3 innings, allowing just four hits and striking out five.

Washington scored its only run in the fourth inning when Alex Cora singled off the foot of Baltimore pitcher Chris Tillman with two outs and the bases loaded. Tillman avoided further damage when he retired Roger Bernadina on a long fly to right that Nick Markakis caught against the fence for the final out of the inning.
