Carlos Silva stayed perfect with seven strong innings and Jeff Baker drove in a pair as the Chicago Cubs took down the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-1, on Monday.

Ryan Theriot scored three runs and stole two bases and Geovany Soto doubled in a run in the game, which was a makeup of a rainout from last week.

Silva continued his improbable resurgence by allowing four hits and one run while walking one and striking out five. The hefty right-hander, who went a combined 5-18 with a 6.81 ERA in 2008 and 2009 with the Seattle Mariners, moved to 8-0 and lowered his ERA to 2.93. He has picked up the win in each of his last six outings.

Chicago got single runs in the first and third on a sacrifice fly and an RBI double from Baker. The Cubs extended to 3-0 on Soto’s double in the fourth and added an insurance run in the seventh and two more in the ninth to put it away.

Left-hander Dana Eveland suffered the loss in his Pirates debut, allowing three runs and six hits in five frames. Eveland was picked up from the Blue Jays last week after surrendering 19 runs - 17 earned - over 9 1/3 innings in his last three American League starts.
