All-Star Adam Wainwright tossed eight shutout innings to continue his dominance of Houston as the St. Louis Cardinals posted an 8-0 victory over the Astros on Friday night.
Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday supplied the offense as each finished with a home run and three RBIs for St. Louis, which snapped a three-game losing streak and won for just the third time in 10 tries at Minute Maid Park.
Wainwright (13-5) improved to 9-1 in his career against the Astros by allowing just six hits - all singles. The right-hander struck out four and walked three.
Pujols opened the scoring with a double to deep center in the first that plated Colby Rasmus. Holliday added to the lead, making it 5-0 in the eighth with his 15th homer of the campaign.
Following an RBI double by Felipe Lopez, Pujols capped the onslaught with a two-run shot in the ninth.
Much of the damage came off Houston starter Bud Norris (2-6), who was tagged for five runs on seven hits in 7 2/3 innings. Norris entered the game with a record of 4-0 and a 0.35 ERA in four prior starts against the Cardinals.
