Matt Garza pitched seven shutout innings and Carl Crawford came within a double of hitting for the cycle as the Tampa Bay Rays crushed the Texas Rangers 10-1 Tuesday night.

Garza (12-7) breezed through the Rangers' makeshift lineup to earn his first victory since tossing a no-hitter on July 26. The right-hander scattered five hits while striking out 10 and walking just two.

Crawford led the way offensively with an RBI triple in the first inning, an infield single in the second and a two-run homer in the seventh. The triple extended his hitting streak to eight games and was the 100th three-base hit of his career.

Evan Longoria added three hits and three RBIs for the Rays, who have won four straight to remain tied with the New York Yankees atop the American League East standings.

Texas starter Tommy Hunter (9-2) was shelled for four runs on six hits over three innings, walking three and striking out four.

David Murphy's RBI single brought home the only run for the Rangers, who have dropped six of eight.

Texas was without injured third baseman Michael Young and outfielder Nelson Cruz.
