Once again, Seattle wasted a strong pitching outing as the Mariners blew a ninth-inning lead, and the Texas Rangers scored twice in the 11th inning for a 3-1 victory and three-game series sweep of the Mariners on Sunday.

Doug Fister gave the Mariners eight shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks, but closer David Aardsma could not keep the Rangers off the scoreboard in the ninth. He walked leadoff hitter Elvis Andrus, who stole second, then gave up an RBI single to David Murphy.

In the 11th, Murphy hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Julio Borbon, who had singled and stole second against Mark Lowe (1-3). Andrus scored on a passed ball, Rob Johnson’s second of the inning.

Dustin Nippert (1-2) picked up his first win and Neftali Feliz put the Mariners down in order in the 11th for his fifth save.

The Mariners have gone 63 innings since hitting a home run.

C.J. Wilson turned in a nice outing, allowing five hits and one run in seven innings. He had four strikeouts and three walks.
