Gio Gonzalez and Andrew Bailey combined on a three-hit shutout as the Oakland Athletics blanked the visiting San Francisco Giants 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Gonzalez (5-3) retired the final 20 batters he faced and in eight innings allowed only a first-inning single to Freddy Sanchez and a second-inning single by Andres Torres.

Gonzalez struck out five and walked one. The Giants put two runners on base against Bailey in the ninth before the Oakland closer struck out Bengie Molina for his seventh save.

Oakland scored its lone run – an unearned run – off San Francisco’s Matt Cain in the third inning without benefit of a hit.

Adam Rosales was hit by a pitch and moved to second on an error by Aubrey Huff. After a sacrifice bunt by Rajai Davis moved Rosales to third, he scored on Coco Crisp’s sacrifice fly to left.

Cain (2-5) allowed just five hits and one walk. He struck out four.

The victory was the second in a row over the Giants for Oakland, which moved back to .500 on the season at 22-22. San Francisco has lost four consecutive games.
