Felix Hernandez struck out nine batters as the Seattle Mariners earned their most lopsided victory of the season in an 11-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.

Hernandez (1-0) got the victory after two no-decisions in his two other starts and the Mariners tied a season high with 12 hits.

Hernandez had a season-best nine strikeouts, allowed four hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Franklin Gutierrez was 3-for-5 and drove in three runs for Seattle. Jose Lopez drove in two runs and Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and drove in a run.

Bonderman (1-1) allowed 10 runs, eight of which were earned, in four innings as his ERA ballooned to 9.00. He had not allowed that many runs since July 2007.

Miguel Cabrera doubled in two runs in the fourth for the Tigers, who opened an 11-day West Coast trip.
