James Shields allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings and the Tampa Bay Rays held on for a 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox Saturday night.

Shields (1-0), who was 0-6 with an 8.04 ERA in six career starts at Fenway Park, gave up nine hits and struck out seven.

Pat Burrell, whose two-run homer in the 12th inning gave the Rays a 3-1 win in the completion of Friday night's suspended game, played a big role in Saturday's victory. His three-run double highlighted a big first inning which saw the Rays take a 4-0 lead against Clay Buchholz (0-1).

Rafael Soriano, who got a save in the suspended game, pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save.

John Jaso had an RBI double in the sixth and Evan Longoria hit a solo home run in the seventh.

Marco Scutaro hit a solo homer off Shields in the fifth to get the Red Sox on the board.

The Rays cruised into the seventh with a 6-1 lead, but that changed quickly after Shields retired the first two batters of the inning. Dustin Pedoria's two-run homer made it 6-3.

Victor Martinez singled and Kevin Youkilis hit another two-run homer off Andy Sonnanstine, cutting the lead to one.
