Matt Garza pitched 5 2/3 solid innings as the Tampa Bay Rays kept pace in the American League East race by downing the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 Friday.

Garza (14-7) left after walking two batters in the sixth, but allowed only one run on five hits while walking three and striking out three to extend his career record at Camden Yards to 6-0.

Carl Crawford had three hits, including an RBI single in the third, and Evan Longoria knocked in his 90th run of the year with a double later in the inning.

Tampa Bay added a run-scoring single from shortstop Reid Brignac and an RBI sacrifice fly from Ben Zobrist in the fourth inning.

Rafael Soriano came on in the ninth to record his 41st save of the year as the Rays remained 1 1/2 games back of the New York Yankees for top spot in the AL East. The Yankees beat Toronto 7-3 earlier in the day.

Baltimore starter Kevin Millwood (3-15) was chased after 5 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits. He walked five and struck out three.

Ty Wigginton had an RBI double in the fourth inning for the Orioles and Luke Scott added a hit and two walks in a losing cause.
